Greedy is a game of dice. You play against the computer during each game,
however, you are also competing in tournament-style play against other human
players by trying to beat the computer by the most points as many times as
possible. Look out, though, you may find the computer hard to beat!
Object:
The object of each game of Greedy is to beat the computer to a score of
10,000 or more points. The more points over 10,000 you score, the more
points you are awarded in the tournament against other players.
Order of Play:
1. Roll all nine dice. (The first roll of each turn is done for you.)
2. Select the dice with points that you want to keep. Points values are
listed below. You do not have to keep all dice with points, but you
must keep at least a "1", a "5" or a "set" of three.
3. Now you may either hit the <E> key to end your turn, or hit the <Enter>
key to re-roll the dice that you didn't select. If you <E>nd your turn
with 10,000 or more points, you win!
4. If you re-rolled, go to step 2 above.
On each roll, some or all of the dice MUST contain points, otherwise the
player FORFEITS all points from the round and automatically passes the dice.
Die Value Number of Dice Points
5 ............ 1 ......... 50
1 ............ 1 ......... 100
2 ............ 3 ......... 200 ─┐
Points Values: 3 ............ 3 ......... 300 │
4 ............ 3 ......... 400 ├─ Sets
5 ............ 3 ......... 500 │
6 ............ 3 ......... 600 │
1 ............ 3 ........ 1000 ─┘
Sets must be rolled at the same time. For example, if you choose a "6"
from a roll, it may not be added to a couple of sixes from any subsequent
roll to make 600 points. This is mentioned only to avoid confusion, since
scoring is performed automatically by the computer.
If a player manages to get points on all nine dice, whether they are
rolled at the same time or in seperate rolls, that player is given the option
of either keeping those points and passing the dice, or re-rolling all nine
dice again for another BONUS round. If the player chooses to go for the bonus
round, all points from the round are still at risk, so don't be greedy!
Play continues until either you or the computer <E>nds a turn with at
least 10,000 points. It is important to hit the <E> key at this point to make
your score permanent. If you hit the <Enter> key, you will re-roll the dice,
and risk losing the round score, and possibly the game!
Scoring:
Winner gets 5,000 points, plus 10 times the number of points above 10,000.
Loser forfeits 2,500 plus 5 times what the computer scored above 10,000.
Keys used in the game:
<1-4><6-9> - Cursor movement for numeric key-pad. Have your Num-Lock on!
<5> - Select/De-Select toggle. The <Space> bar can also be used.
<A>ll - Selects all remaining dice.
<Enter> - Rolls the remaining, un-selected dice.
<E>nd Turn - Passes the dice to the computer. All points are kept.
<H>elp - Shows the instructional screens.
<R>edraw - Use in case of too much line-noise and on-screen garbage.
<Q>uit - Quits (and forfeits) the game. Game cannot be made up later.
Quitting while the computer is winning will result in your
score decreasing by 10,000 points! If this is the case, you
will be warned and asked to confirm the choice to quit.
The "Sum" box at the bottom shows your running total, i.e., the sum of the
points rolled in that round plus the points earned from previous turns.
The "Delay Speed" bar at the bottom-right of the screen controls how long
the computer waits between displaying his comments and re-rolling or passing
the dice. Experienced players may not want to wait very long, and should
decrease the indicator to the left. Beginners may need a longer delay to see
what the computer says, and/or checking out what dice the computer has chosen.
Putting the indicator to the left-most position suppresses most of the
computer's comments. The following keys control the speed bar:
"<" and "," move the indicator to the left, decreasing the delay time.
">" and "." move the indicator to the right, increasing the delay time.
Players using the GIFT terminal with a mouse can click the left mouse
button on the "<" or ">" buttons to move the indicator. You MUST be using
GIFT version 1.4 or higher for the mouse to work with the speed bar buttons!
Have fun, but don't be too G R E E D Y !
